DAMIAN MARLEY AND NAS PRESENT "DISTANT RELATIVES" IN WASHINTON

Special Event @ National Geographic in Washington, DC on 12/12/2009.

Nas and Damian "Jr.Gong" Marley explore the origins of the deeply-rooted, reggae, and hip-hop genre, tracing both sounds forward to African Music.

They will debate and celebrate the implications of the culture's impact on the global community with a panel of pioneers - from DJ Kool Herc and DJ Red Alert to Jamaican dancehall Legend, Daddy U-Roy, King Jammy, and moderator Sway Colloway of MTV.

This event will also be streamed live and broadcast online at Natgeomusic.net

The event will be followed by an after-party and open-mic show at Zanibar, a Washinton, DC nightclub, and will feature all event participants. Ticket price includes entry tot the after-party.

Event in general admission. Tickets are limited, and all tickets must be pricked up at door. The event at National Geographic is being filmed for an exciting upcoming documentary.

It was only 3 weeks ago that Rohan Marley son of the late Bob Marley launched the company’s Canadian operations for its Canadian and international customers. “We had hoped to open our Los Angeles facility 6-8 weeks after Canada, but due to the amazing demand we had to accelerate our timeline” said company CEO Shane Whittle.

The company and concept around it is the brainchild of long time friends Rohan Marley and Shane Whittle. For Rohan the company is a labor of love and a tribute to his late father. “My father came from the farmland in Nine Mile. There, he learned a deep respect for nature and humanity. Respect that helped guide his life. He said he would return to the farm one day. That was his dream.”

That dream has now become a reality and his dream is alive in the company’s core philosophy “ITAL” which stands for all things Pure True and Vital. All of Marley Coffee is organic certified. But beyond that ITAL is also embodied in the ethical treatment of the company’s farm workers on the Marley Coffee farm as well at the sustainable cultivation of coffee trees. Additionally, some proceeds from the sale of the coffee will go to the Marley Coffee foundation which helps youth soccer programs in rural coffee growing regions of Jamaica.
